English teaching should be interesting and creative in order to attract students' attention. There is an English teacher who uses an interesting method to teach high school English. Students can learn English by playing games with classmates, and what's more, they can even memorize vocabulary while jogging.
In Miaoli County (苗栗縣), an English teacher of Jyun-Yi Senior High School (君毅中學) applies creative and innovative teaching methods to teach English in class. The teacher, Li Yen-Hung (黎彥宏), make students play vocabulary games with classmates. If the students win more than three times, they can hit the teacher's bottom. Many teaching methods arouse students' learning interests in English, and apparently, the students have made huge progress in their English abilities.
The teacher also makes students memorize vocabulary with jogging. Li said that it was a practical way to do exercise - jogging while learning English. After five years of teaching experience, Li has changed boring, traditional learning into structured, creative learning such as is commonly done through out many Western countries and in many fine American schools. The Italian psychologist Maria Montessori and other teaching innovators have been introducing these kinds of learning techniques in Europe and English-speaking countries for many years. It is great to see a creative Taiwanese teacher have the courage and intelligence to do so in Taiwan. He attracts students to learn Englisn, enjoy it, and he keeps their attention. Through his fun interaction with students, Li has the approval of other school teachers and parents. Students call Li an energetic and interesting English teacher; and they like him very much.
