My Unforgettable Vacation
Good afternoon everybody, my name is Wayne . The topic of my speech is
“My unforgettable vacation.”
This winter, I went with my family to two cities in two extremely different
countries. One was Jakarta , located in Indonesia and the other one was Seoul ,
the capital of Korea . The cities are very different, especially when you compare
the weather and traffic. Jakarta has a hot and humid tropical climate.
The weather in Seoul is cold and dry. When we traveled around Jakarta , we
Encountered traffic jams which were bumper to bumper from the early morning to
the late evening. Seoul has a similar population to Jakarta , but it has a large subway
system with ten lines. It may be hard to believe, but traffic jams never happened to us
in our daily tours there.
Jakarta was the first destination of our vacation. We went to a place called
Kidzania in a large shopping mall. Kidzania is a them park where kids can pretend to
do jobs that people do in real life. I tried many different jobs such as a firefighter,
policeman, dentist, window washer, car racer and pilot. My favorite job was being
policeman because it was interesting to arrest criminals and throw them into jail.
The next day, we went to an ice rink to skate. It is the only place that you can go
skating. We skated there for the whole morning. After all of the indoor activities,
we went to see a volcano. It is the only active volcano that people can reach by car
in Indonesia . We took a close look, but we needed to be careful or else we might have
fallen into the volcano!
After our adventures in Indonesia , we flew from the equator to Northeast Asia
and landed in Seoul , Korea . The most impressive place I visited was
the Korean War Battlefields. The ceasefire line runs near the 38th parallel between
North and South Korea . We saw many armed soldiers and even tanks there!
It is too dangerous to go onto the battle fields because there are mines everywhere.
The roads are the only safe places, so we had to be very careful.
Our main reason for visiting Korea was to have fun in the snow and go skiing.
I was very happy because it was my first skiing trip. After I had gone down the slope
for the first time, I felt totally different. The speed was amazing! Now, I am a much
better skier than my Dad! I love it so much!
I like to travel to different places and learn about the traditions and culture.
It isa fresh and exciting experience. I also like to practise speaking new languages.

The World Outside
’m No XX. The topic for my speech is “The World Outside”
Most people consider traveling to be a time of playing, relaxing, and touring about. Personally, I love to travel and I have visited several different countries since I was one year old. Through travel, I have gained many new experiences, and for me, it is a time to learn as well.
Last year, I visited France . France is a very old country in Europe . I saw many beautiful and yet over 100-year old buildings there with very interesting architectural structures. They were telling me unsung stories silently. Also, I really enjoyed authentic French cuisine over there where every course was served in slow motion with different types of sauces and the whole meal took more than 2 hours to finish! This experience was truly amazing!
Korean food is a different story. This year, I went to Korea for my winter and summer vacations. Two words can be used to describe the Korean food: “hot” and “spicy”, and “Kimji” is probably the most famous Korean food which is served on almost every Korean restaurant.
Twice I have visited Japan which is a close neighbour of Taiwan . When I stayed in a regular small hotel, everything was so neat and clean to make me feel that I was staying in a five star hotel room! Also, they are very good at arranging their spaces, which makes the whole environment so organized and enjoyable.
One interesting thing about travel is that I can learn to speak a few words of those countries I have visited. For example:
In Korea , "Annyeong-haseyo" means hello; "nay" means yes; "anyo" means no; and "kamsahamnida" means thank you.
In Japan , I also learned a few words like "sayounara" which means goodbye; "kon-nichiwa" means hello; "arigato" means thank you; and "douzo" means please.
While in France I also learned some basic words like "Bonjour" which says good morning; "Comment allez vous" which asks "How are you?" and Merci Beaucoup means “Thank you very much.”
After all, there is a lot of truth in the saying --- "A picture is worth a thousand words." I have also learned to take a lot of pictures as I travel so that I can re-visit these places as many times as I wish.
As a son of an airline captain, I am grateful to have the opportunity to travel easily, and I will continue to do so to open my eyes. Some day, I would like to be a backpacker like my parents, to be an International Cultural Youth Exchange, or to be a Global Volunteer to have more in depth traveling and envision the world outside !!
