Joyce Pei-Hsun Hsieh was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. She graduated from the Music-Gifted Class in 1990; the same year, she was accepted by Taipei National University of The Arts (TNUA) through a directory-entrance exam, with a major in piano performance under Professor Constance Lee’s advise. In the year of 1992, as an undergraduate, as a demonstrator, Hsieh was invited by Dr. Lu-Fen Yen to participate in a series of workshops in the program “Introduction to Classical Music”held in National Concert Hall. During her undergraduate years, she was invited to perform in campus concerts national-wide.
Since Hsieh’s college graduation, she was received as a piano-major graduate student with the highest score at the Institute of Music of National Ciao-Tung University. During her apprenticeship under Dr. Hsing-Chwen Hsin and Dr. Mo-Li Chiang, she was also invited to a piano performance workshop by the Music Department at University of North Texas (UNT), United States. With the recommendation to the PhD program from Dr. Phil Winsor, Chairperson of the Composition at UNT then, Hsieh declined the chance with sorrow and regret due to certain family factors. Not only is she now teaching in special classes of music-gifted students in Hsinchu and Taoyuan in Taiwan, but she spares no efforts in promoting classical music with a genuine passion and enthusiasm toward classical music. She is currently still very much active in speeches, lecture recitals ,piano performances and collaborative concerts with various Taiwanese composers and musicians.
