This time around, the Queen of Pop has brought in star producers Timbaland and The Neptunes to give her album a more urban, hip-hop feel than previous releases. This is an unusual move for Madonna, who has a reputation for collaborating with relatively obscure dance producers like Mirwais and Stewart Price. Hand Candy also features vocal appearances by Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Pharell Williams of the Neptunes and Kenya West. Standout tracks include the innuendo-laden opener, “Candy Shop” and the lead single, “4 Minutes” which has Madonna and Justin Timberlake trading flirty lines over a funky marching-band beat. While the album does include a few duds, it’s safe to say that Madonna’s latest confection is more sweet than sour.
